AeroChill Horse Cooling Rug
The AeroChill Horse Cooling Rug employs advanced evaporative technology to reduce recovery time and enhance performance in horses. It aids in alleviating heat exhaustion and supports muscle recovery post-exercise.
Utilized globally, the AeroChill Cooling Rug is popular in countries such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and various regions in Asia, significantly reducing heat-related injuries.
Recommended for pre-competition use, the rug’s excellent cooling properties dissipate heat from the horse’s body on warm days, aiding in achieving peak performance.
Constructed from a highly absorbent polymer fabric, the Aerochill material effectively removes heat during post-exercise or pre-exercise walks. Optimal function requires the horse to be in motion; hand walking enables the AeroChill Horse Cooling Rug to perform most effectively.
Its evaporative technology transfers heat from the horse’s body to the exterior of the rug, enhancing blood circulation.
Distinct from other horse rug coolers, it is particularly beneficial for transporting horses in warm conditions. Simple to use: drench the rug in water, wring it out, and place it directly on the horse. To maintain effectiveness, the rug should remain wet, and the horse should either be moving or in a well-ventilated space with air circulation.
It features a front buckle, belly strap, and fillet string for secure attachment.
Each rug comes with a convenient Aerochill cool carry bag.
Available in 2 sizes: M to fit rug size 5ft9 – 6ft3. L to fit approx size 6ft6 – 6ft9.

HORSECARE EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING
Product: AeroChill cooling rug
The rug aids in cooling a horse and alleviating heat exhaustion. As a result this also helps muscle recovery. Made of a super-absorbent polymer fabric. This pulls heat from the horse and improves blood circulation.
Judges’ comments: “The science behind this product is admirable. It is very good quality, realistically priced, useful in all disciplines and comes in fantastic packaging.”
Testimonial from Endurance Rider – Victoria Smith.
Victoria Smith, has competed in endurance for over 16 years and rides at Advanced level. She is also Chair of the Heart of England Group of Endurance GB.
Rug results: Tested on an 18 year old Haflinger mare at the Red Dragon ride over the Black Mountains in mid Wales. Competed on 3 consecutive days totaling 126km (42k Friday, 48k Saturday, 36k Sunday) October 2017.
Day1: The Control: The first day I didn’t use the rug, walked for the final mile – final heart rate (after 30 mins) 56 bpm (needs to be under 64 to pass but lower HR goes towards the criteria for obtaining a higher grade and therefore points for the ride).
Day2:, The mare walked/trotted final mile – final heart rate (after 30 mins) 48 bpm – HR was 70bpm 20 minutes after finishing – we walked with the rug on for the final 10 mins
Day3: (tired horse), trotted final mile – final heart rate (after 30 mins) 54 bpm – HR was 86bpm 20 minutes after finishing – we walked with the rug on for the final 10 mins
Over the 6 rides I have completed on Gizmo this year her final HR has never been below 55bpm.
Horse Rug Cooler Review
Article from The British Grooms Association Magazine August 2018
The Aerochill rug and boots assist in reducing a horses temperature, alleviating heat exhaustion and helping muscle recovery. Made of a super absorbent polymer fibre fabric that pulls heat from the horse and improves blood circulation. Because the rug and boots decrease recovery time this can help to maximize performance. AeroChill Cooling Boots provided 5/8˚C reduction in thermal skin temperature over 10 minutes, while the AeroChill Cooling Rug provided 12/14˚C reduction in thermal skin temperature over 10 minutes. The attached thermographic shows spot 1 after wearing the cooling boot for 10 minutes 21.5˚C. Spot 2 shows the area of the leg that did not have AeroChill cooling boots – this is reading at 30.3˚C. In summary the results have concluded that both cooling solutions left a cooling thermal skin temperature when removed.
Directions for use:
Activation: The rugs need 2 elements to work, water and also airflow. For first time of use wet in a large bucket of water for 10-15 minutes, but after this for future uses put in a large bucket for 2 – 5 minutes. Squeeze the water out so they are wet but not dripping and put on the horse by securing the straps and fillet string.
Apply: Straight after competition or exercise, put the rug on and then walk the horse off either in hand, or on a horse walker or grazing in hand. Leave on for approx 25-35 minutes and then return to your normal regime. Or reapply the rug by simply reactivating it by getting it wet again.
Recovery: The rug accelerates the recovery of the back muscles and vital organs such as lowering the heart rate by taking the heat out of the muscles.
